About the art...
 “The Cut-Out” is a large-scale collage made of painted paper that was created in 1951. The work is composed of a variety of shapes, including leaves, flowers, birds, and animals, arranged in a dynamic and playful composition. The colours are bold and vibrant, and the shapes are simplified and stylised.
He began creating his cut-outs in the late 1940s after he was confined to a wheelchair due to a serious illness. He found that cutting paper was a more accessible medium for him than painting, and he embraced it with great enthusiasm. Cut-outs are a culmination of his lifelong exploration of form, colour, and space.
In “The Cut-Out,” has created a work that is both joyful and meditative. The shapes are arranged in a way that suggests a sense of movement and rhythm, and the colours are so vibrant that they seem to glow.
Cut-outs are often interpreted as a celebration of life and the natural world. They are also seen as a reflection of the artist’s own personal journey, as he overcame illness and physical limitations to create some of his most iconic works of art.
