The Spicy Margarita is believed to have originated in Mexico in the early 2000s. It is said to have been created by Julio Bermejo, the owner of Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco and creator of Tommy’s Margarita, in which agave nectar supplants the drink’s traditional orange liqueur. Bermejo started infusing blanco tequila with habanero peppers.
The Spicy Margarita quickly became popular in Mexico and soon spread to other parts of the world. It is now a popular cocktail in many countries, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Spicy Margarita is a relatively simple cocktail to make, but it is important to use high-quality ingredients to get the best flavour. The tequila should be smooth and flavourful, the lime juice should be tart and refreshing, the orange liqueur should be sweet and orangey, and the chili liqueur should be spicy and flavourful.
To make a Spicy Margarita, simply combine 2 ounces of tequila, 1 ounce of lime juice, 1 ounce of orange liqueur, and 1/2 ounce of chili liqueur in a shaker with ice. Shake until well-chilled, and strain into a glass rimmed with salt. Garnish with a lime wedge and a chili pepper. Serve immediately.
